| Spicethyme was always a tortie with attitude and wouldn't tolerate other cats as she matured. Reluctantly I decided to spay her and find her a good home. We took her to a lady in Weston-Super-Mare and all seemed well for up to 6 months.
Then things obviously started to go wrong. Some Birman folk know the next bit of her story.
Spice was quite verbal, especially if not given lots of attention and her new owner had had enough and took her to the vets - to be put down!!! The vets refused and someone with a rehoming centre took her in. It was a place from hell. Fortunately the Birman 'Jungle Drums' got going and I was eventually asked if she was mine. It took a very good friend and a lot of subterfuge to rescue her out of there. She was very matted and full of fleas - having been kept in a tiny cage in a kitchen with many other cats and dogs around her. Her rescuer dealt with the fleas, matts and general dirty condition and then I had her back home. Spice wouldn't settle back here and has now been with a lovely new owner in London for over a year. He loves her chatty nature and considers Spice as almost his daughter. Both are devoted to each other.

Jenny only ever 'called' once at 10 months of age, and then never did again. We tried many investigations and medications to no avail, as well as living with Custer to try and encourage her. Eventually we had t give up and so we spayed her prior to finding her a new home as she was young enough to settle into a permanent home of her own. She now lives in Oxfordshire with a lady who loves her to bits, and is known as Jenna - her original name. We've seen her several times and she is very happy there with some freedom.

Missippi was our beautiful Silver Tabby girl who was having a wonderful career on the show bench when she suddenly began to be ill. After a series of tests it was discovered she had developed a serious cancer in her liver. This devastated us as she was so youung and the cancer took hold so quickly. We had her gently put to sleep to relieve her suffering but we will always remember her gentleness and miss her greatly.

Witchy was living as a neuter with us until some lovely people came to see us and fell in love with her. She now lives happily with them as their adored and pampered pet.

Caesar:
some people will be aware that Caesar died in 2005. It
was a sudden tragic loss, and will take me a long time to come to terms
with. Caesar had been my wonderful stud boy for 6 years, and was looking
forward to his retirement. He had also excelled himself with exhibition
work, and never needed any restraint whilst surrounded by the public and cat
lovers. He was the ultimate laid back cat.
To prepare for his retirement, he visited the vet for neutering and a dental -
and devastatingly, died a short while later, from
Subacute
Bacterial Endocarditis.
We will never forget him.

Fartina
Cullinda: During April 2005 we also lost Tina to cancer and kidney
failure. We knew her time was limited, but it never gets easier when we
loose a loved one. She had a grand life, loving to be free in the
garden, and adored many cuddles.
I think Tina's greatest hour was at a Supreme Show, when we dressed her pen to
befit her name. A few folk thought the pen to be in bad taste, but many
were most amused - it certainly won't ever be forgotten - like Tina herself.

Kandi is mother to Ghost, and she is a beautiful girl.
Unfortunately Namrib Spicethyme hated her with a vengeance and attacked Kandi
at every opportunity, with the result that Kandi became terrified of all other
cats. This meant we had to keep her entirely separate, and so she either
lived in a bedroom or a cattery. As she so adores being with people, I
have spayed her and let her go to live in a loving home with one of her own
kittens. She has settled down beautifully and is very happy - with all
the stress now gone. We miss her, but feel it was the right decision for
her peace of mind. |

Pollyanna
was spayed
at the end of 2004 as
she unfortunately produced a kitten with a liver shunt. This was a
traumatic time, and even though the kitten was operated on, she still died. I
couldn't risk another kitten with the same condition, so Polly now lives with
a friend and a Namrib Maine Coon. It took a short while to settle her
in, but now she and the Maine Coon are the best of friends. When we
visit it is lovely to see them both. |
Champagne Onice was spayed after producing 41 kittens. She was an extremely fertile
queen who produced 7 kittens, then 9 kittens and then 11 kittens, one litter
each year. We then only let her have 2 matings and she still produced
two litters of 7 in each. We decided enough was enough and spayed her
late 2004. She opted to live with Quinty, who she loved as a
companion and also came out with the girls from time to time. In fact,
she hds never looked better - she hds put some weight on and was very fussy -
particularly with my husband Malcolm.
Champers was found to have an abdominal tumour in late 2009 and we were advised not to go ahead with surgery. She lived a full life until mid 2010 when we decided she was suffering so we let her go. This was very hard, particularly for Malcolm, who she always loved - never me!!!
