The cats soon
learn not to climb too high. I personally tested the 'kick' (shock)
that the wires would give - and it does make you jump, but does not harm
the cats. Caesar to my knowledge climbed twice and got
zapped, he jumped down into the garden, shook his head and ran into his
pen. He was completely unharmed - but learnt not to climb -
rapidly.
We can now let all the cats out in turn, to have a more natural life and they really enjoy it, especially as we have recently had a garden makeover. The grassy area was always very boggy in the winter so we decided to have the whole garden slabbed but have retained many of the bushes for the cats to get away from the hot sunshine - when we have some!!! This now means the cats enjoy the garden more, have large cat poles to climb and bask on, and play chase without getting their feet muddy. We've put in two water features for their enjoyment - and mine. They love to drink from the flowing water and the Maine Coons particularly like to try and empty them. The garden makeover is a great success both for the cats and ourselves. All day long we let the cats out in groups so they can have amore natural life. I just hope for good summers so that I can be outside doing a bit of sunbathing, Malcolm can sit in the shade, and the cats can be all around us. Bliss!!!
